Preschool Program

 

A normal day includes:

CIRCLE TIME
Morning greeting, calendar, weather songs, finger plays, rhymes, circle games, creative movement, yoga, and "show and tell".

LEARNING CENTER ACTIVITIES
The centers that are available for students to choose from include but are not limited to the following:

  • Blocks
  • Creative Arts Center
  • Manipulatives, puzzles, math, and other small motor activities
  • Library-Listening Center
  • Science Discovery Table
  • Dramatic Play-Role-playing Center
  • Computer Center
  • Literacy/Writing Center
  • Math-manipulatives, games, visuals, and activities based on Bridges in Mathematics (a multi-sensory math learning experience)
  • Ceramic Pottery
  • Sensory Table

MORNING SNACK
A time for sharing, conversation, and practicing table manners and self help skills

GROUP ACTIVITIES
Small and large preschool group activities include such things as cooking, science experiments, math, written and oral literacy, reading readiness, fine/gross motor, arts and crafts, music and nature walks. Our classrooms combine to practice yoga every Thursday, engage in the Big Buddy Project (which pairs older preschool students with kindergarten students in an interactive, cooperative science project every Thursday), and cook together in the main kitchen every Friday.

STORY TIME
Stories, chapter books, and poetry are told orally and through movement and animation using books, flannel boards, puppets and other imaginative materials and presentation ideas.

OUTDOOR PLAY & GARDENING

We think that going outside to explore, experiment and develop our natural curiosity is an important part of a young student's day. We go outside to promote this curiosity in nature's classroom every day and in all kids of weather. We request that students come to school dressed for outside exploration and play.

OUTDOOR MOVEMENT
Outdoor movement classes offered at Happy Hollow include a year round soccer program for our preschool, kindergarten and school age students provided by Soccer Shots.

LUNCH 

Our half-day program runs from 7:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Our full day preschool program includes: Quiet/Nap time, PM Snack, Outside play & movement, learning center rotations, chapter book reading, science and art projects.
